Hi there! Thanks again for purchasing a Padlock. We’re excited to help you on our journey to change the relationship you have with your phone. By the end of this short guide you’ll be up and running with Padlock, and if you ever need to refer back to it, we’ve linked to it from the homepage of our website.

To get started, download the Padlock app from the App Store by clicking on this link.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, make sure to grant it Screen Time permissions. Without these permissions, the app won’t function as it uses Screen Time capabilities to block other apps.

← To do this, click Continue when the popup appears asking you to grant access to screen time.

Then, another pop up should appear, as shown on the right. Click Allow and authenticate as required. →

If you accidentally closed the prompt and didn’t grant screen time access to the app, please delete the app and re install it, making sure to grant permissions when it asks again.

Then, select the apps you want to block by going to the Blocked Apps screen using the bottom bar.

Click on the categories to expand them and show the apps inside.

Please note that you can block a maximum of 50 apps at one time.

Once you’ve selected the apps you want to block go back to the Padlock screen and tap the big padlock logo in the centre.

Once you’ve done this, an overlay will appear that says Ready to Scan. When you see this overlay, grab your Padlock device, and touch it against the top part of the rear of your phone. Your phone is now in Padlock mode and your chosen apps are inaccessible.

To leave Padlock mode, and access the apps you’ve chosen to block, tap on the Padlock logo and touch your Padlock device against your phone.

By default, you need to tap the Padlock device against your phone to lock your apps, however, within the app’s settings page, you can change it so that you can lock your apps without tapping. Perfect if you’re in bed and want to lock your apps to stop yourself scrolling in the morning, but don’t want to go and get Padlock from wherever you’ve put it to do so.
